Introduction - Biotechnology Practice Applications

One of the first widespread impacts biotechnology had on nutrition practice was the approval of biotech insulin for human use in 1982. Since then, other products, such as functional foods, have found their way into the marketplace. Developments in the biotechnology area with applications in nutrition practice are both in the development and testing stages.

It certainly seems that the only limits to the products that can be made will be human imagination, ingenuity and ethical concerns. This lesson discusses some of the developments that impact nutrition practice currently and in the future, as well as some potential positive and negative impacts this technology could have.
