Summary - CRW Part 2

Corn rootworm has caused economic damage to corn crops throughout the Corn Belt for years. In the past, CRW was controlled using methods such as crop rotation and soil insecticide applications. Through advancements in genetic engineering, technology has been developed that allows insect resistance within the corn plant.

Important factors to remember when managing CRW include adult and larval sampling, economic thresholds of CRW populations, and whether to use cultural, chemical, or biotechnology management options. If producers choose to manage CRW using transgenic corn hybrids, insecticide resistance management is another important factor to implement into the overall management program.
