CRW Management Options
After the threshold for corn rootworm has been determined, the producer needs to implement a management plan to control the current problem or prevent a future problem. Managing corn rootworms can involve cultural, chemical, and host plant resistance options. There are advantages and disadvantages to using each of these types of management to control CRW. Insecticide resistance management is also an important consideration when examining management alternatives. Avoiding resistance is a common goal among producers and researchers throughout the Corn Belt. Once an insect becomes resistant to one insecticide that insecticide is lost and additional alternatives may not be available.
