Summary

Herbicide resistant weeds are of concern to many sectors of the agricultural community: farmers, advisers, crop consultants, researchers, and the chemical industry. The fear exists that in an extreme case of resistance, farmers might lose a valuable chemical tool that had previously been essential for the effective control of yield-reducing weeds. Experience has shown that resistance problems are manageable through the integrated use of available weed control technologies.

Understanding the rate at which herbicide resistance appears in weed populations in a farmer’s field might help to identify the problem sooner, so that alternative control practices can be implemented and successful weed control achieved.
